5-31-09 Repairing the Toyota 4 Runner

When we took the 4 Runner to be smogged on Memorial weekend, the word was that the "emissions" were fine, but something was not right with the "crank shaft". Something was reported to be at 40 that should be at 10. (Can you tell I have no idea what I'm saying here?) Don doesn't feel it can even be put together at 40, but he's been investigating what he felt the real problem was. He found a timing belt kit on Ebay so this weekend he's been taking things apart and putting them together with shinier pieces. I got to play too. There was no gasket for this little reservoir deallie that water runs through, so my job was to put silicone along this tiny little channel in the top half that was then bolted back on to the bottom half. You can see the bottom half of this deallie in the top middle of these pictures between the two "cam shafts" --at least I think that's what Don called them (the large round wheel looking things).
